Sweet potato and chickpea salad

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have spotted my recent addiction to the sweet potato and chickpea salad from Kcal Kitchen. Self-proclaimed 'restaurant for the health and body conscious customer', I have to put my hands up and admit I only discovered this place because I had a business lunch there. Nervously expecting wheatgrass shots and protein shakes, I was pleasantly surprised by the menu and quickly ordered their sweet potato and chickpea salad with a tahini-maple sauce. Tasty and light, I've been craving it around the clock ever since

So, I've given in to - admittedly very healthy - temptation and made it at home.

Ten things you didn't know about Beauty and the Beast

Today marks the release of the first trailer for the live-action adaption of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, so to mark the occasion (and because I'M SO FREAKIN' EXCITED!) I thought I'd share some facts you might not know about the original 1991 animated film.

Dogs That Dine

I flipping love dogs. If you read my blog, follow me on Twitter, know me offline or have just met me on the street while I gush over your pooch, you'll know this already. That's why when the lovely Sarah announced her Dogs That Dine event there wasn't even a moment of hesitation over whether I'd buy a ticket or not. Dogs That Dine is a blogger event with a difference: bringing together bloggers, dog lovers and even some of our four-legged friends, the afternoon is in aid of raising money for the fantastic Dogs Trust Glasgow. The centre is hoping to improve the exercise and play area for their doggy residents but needs vital funds to cover the expense. Kind-hearted Sarah - whose sister also volunteers at the centre every week - decided to do something to help.

What I read in April

I think one of my favourite things about going on holiday is having a digital detox. As much as I'm addicted to I love a scroll through Twitter and Instagram, when I'm on holiday I don't want to think about what's happening 'at home' - I want to switch off and focus on the here and now. When I flew back from Orlando last month, I couldn't face the fast-paced swipes of social media for a little longer - so I hid inside books instead. There should actually be another book pictured, but I lent out my copy of Room before I took a photograph. I really enjoyed all four books - isn't it brilliant when you get on a reading roll and read one fantastic book after another?! - so I thought I would post a little round-up and hopefully add to some of your to-be-read lists!

Feel Good Friday #37

After a - ahem - brief blogging hiatus, I'm back with a brand spanking new Feel Good Friday!

Last weekend a whopping 33 lions were flown to their new home in Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in Vaalwater, South Africa. The big cats, all rescued from illegal circuses in Peru and Colombia, were part of the biggest evacuation Animal Defenders International has ever organised.

After years of being trapped in tiny cages and cruelly forced to perform to crowds, the lions can now live out the rest of their lives in natural enclosures at the sanctuary. The president of Animal Defenders International, Jan Creamers, says 'We are delighted that these lions who have suffered so much will be going home to Africa where they belong... Before Animal Defenders International rescued them, these animals had never felt the grass beneath their feet or the sun over their heads. Yesterday, they were in the African bush.'
